Lute Updates

Checking in on the progress I have made in my studies.

Hi all, happy spring :^) Lately I have been working on a couple short tunes on the lute as I slowly but surely gain familiarity with the instrument. The first is called "The Branle," and it comes from my handy book of warmup exercises and simple songs from Dr. Jeff Noonan:

now I have the lute visible when i record B)

This piece is the first that I have performed that really gave me the sense of "oh I am playing a RENAISSANCE lute" if that makes any sense. I feel bard-like. Getting my left hand in position for the lower strings on some of the chords has been a struggle, but with practice I have improved. Now I want to get the bass notes to ring out a bit more, and improve my tone overall.

Next is a simple Greensleeves composition from Dr. Laudon Schuett's youtube course on lute fundamentals. This one contains a lot more variety in the treble voice, and has been good practice for trying different rhythms.

I was feeling like using the bulge filter on photo booth :P

I was feeling apprehensive about posting these videos because I am inclined to see the mistakes and areas to improve. But then I remembered that a few months ago I didn't even know how to hold a lute, let alone play a little ditty like this. So I guess I am accepting that although it's not perfect, it is where it is!
